I have studied a transcript which involves two members from the cast of Geordie Shore Vicky and her fiancée Ricci. The transcript is based on them having a conversation with an interviewee about the season coming up and also about their own personal relationship.
Throughout the transcript theories of language are used by
both Vicky and Ricci, however some of the language and actions used by them go
against theories within ‘Language and Gender’. The transcript begins with the
interviewee asking the couple if there is going to be a “Geordie weddin” on
this season or coming up. Vicky answers the question, although there is a
slight pause between when the question is asked and when she produces the
answer. This shows that she herself was hesitant with what to say as well as
showing that Ricci doesn’t show much interest in the question which was asked
as he made no effort to produce an answer. However the transcript then follows
on to Ricci commenting on the way that Vicky answered the question which
involved lots of pauses and fillers. From this he goes onto ask a question to
both the interviewee and Vicky herself ‘is she feelinn alright are you feelin
alright’ this shows that Ricci is almost mocking Vicky for the way which she answered
the question.
One theory which is shown by both Vicky and Ricci within the
transcript is one wrote by Robin Lakoff.
